- after climbing ashore rainsfield walks though the jungle to a clearing near the beach where he finds a rather nice and large house and is invited in to the house the the owner a general and they have dinner and talk about how much the general loves to hunt and what exactly he hunts on the island
- falling action
- while they talk and smoke the general starts to talk about how he got bored with hunting normal and needed something smarter to hunt something that can reason and that is when rainsford realizes that the general is hunting humans begins to get nervous and goes to bed and in the morning his worst fears are true it's his turn to be hunted the general tells him that he has to go three days without the general finding him and he will have three days food water and a hunting knife and he also says that he likes to hunt at night so rainsford sets out right away

- as soon as rainsford leaves he starts to try to confuse the general by leaving a very complicated fox trail to make it hard for the general to track him and then he hides in a tree and waits for the night and the end of the night and then he sees the general who took so long that by the time that he got to the tree it was the second day and the general left, after that rainsford ran to a bog there he found 2 trees that he perfectly set up a trap that would make a large tree fall on the general and then he waited in a hiding spot and when the general came he triggered the trap and the general naraly dodged it and was left with an injured shoulder and left to dress his wound and rainsford ran again and found another good spot to set up a trap in the night of day 2 and set up a tiger trap and hid again and when the general came the trap worked but not on the general but on his dog and one of his best and on the rise of day 3 after the general left rainsford ran and with his knife he set up another trap that killed the generals assistant and than the general spotted him
- rainsford jumps into the water to get away from the general and then the general sat down and had a picnic lunch while rainsford swam from the scene unseen by the general
- later that night while the general was getting ready to sleep he wondered what had happened rainsford and then he heard the lantern behind him turn on and he turned to see rainsford behind him with a very angry look on his face and rainsford said that its his turn to know what its like to sleep out side for a couple nights and the general was sent to sleep with the dogs
