- I'm extremely sorry to say but after the CT scans, chest X-Rays, MRI's, PET scans, and bone scans, it is evident that your friend is suffering from Stage 3 Small Lung Cancer. Cancerous cells are rapidly multiplying in her lungs, and by the looks of it, has spread to many of the most common places for lung cancer to spread, being the liver, bones, and adrenal glands. Its also common for it to spread to the brain, but luckily for her it hasn't gotten there yet!
- But what caused this doc?
- Well lung cancer isn't really inherited, its mostly caused by environmental factors. The biggest one being smoking, which you mentioned she did a lot of. Honestly by looking at her medical records, she was very healthy. This could have been prevented by simply not vaping/smoking, or secondhand smoking. Lung cancer is the most common cancer worldwide, however those most susceptible are 65 and older.
- Is she gonna be okay? I'm really worried.
- Well the symptoms aren't pleasant. Being a persistent cough, or a worsening cough, pain while breathing, breathlessness, fatigue, apatite or weight loss, and wheezing. However we will start treatments immediately which include chemotherapy, immunotherapy, and radiation, along with making sure she maintains a healthy lifestyle, diet, weight, and stops smoking for good. Fortunately, though this cancer is very aggressive, it responds well to treatments.
- So there is hope?
- Of course! Just be brave for her okay? She's gonna be just fine!
