- hey Marc, i have to do a school project about the Chernobyl disaster, could you help me?
- Sure!
- The authorities tried to hide this disaster, and they startd evacuating all the people that lived near to the plant without an explanation.
- The Chernobyl disaster took place on April the 26 of 1986 in ukraine. It was the result of a flawed reactor design that was operated with inadequately trained personnel
- As a result of the explosion a huge cloud raised into the sky and spread huge amounts of radioactive fuels and materials
- 2 plant workers died due to the explosion on the night of the accident, and other 28 died because of the radiation
- The air of where the disaster ocurred its still contaminated, and if you want to visit it, you must go with a guide and a mask to protect yourself.
- The firemen that arrived to the disaster tried to cool down the reactor with lead and sand bags.
- So, is it similar to the fukushima disaster?
- And the other difference is that in Fukushima radioactive material was released into the sea
- Yes, it is, but the main differences are that the fukushima one ocurred because of a earthquake and a tsunami, making 3 of the reactores to fail.
