hey Marc, i have to do a school project about the Chernobyl disaster, could you help me?
Sure!
The authorities tried to hide this disaster, and they startd evacuating all the people that lived near to the plant without an explanation.
The Chernobyl disaster took place on April the 26 of 1986 in ukraine. It was the result of a flawed reactor design that was operated with inadequately trained personnel
As a result of the explosion a huge cloud raised into the sky and spread huge amounts of radioactive fuels and materials
2 plant workers died due to the explosion on the night of the accident, and other 28 died because of the radiation
The air of where the disaster ocurred its still contaminated, and if you want to visit it, you must go with a guide and a mask to protect yourself.
The firemen that arrived to the disaster tried to cool down the reactor with lead and sand bags.
So, is it similar to the fukushima disaster?
And the other difference is that in Fukushima radioactive material was released into the sea
Yes, it is, but the main differences are that the fukushima one ocurred because of a earthquake and a tsunami, making 3 of the reactores to fail.
Oh, Thanks Marc, you were very helpful!
you are welcome John!
Both of them are in the 7th level on the scale of nuclear accidents
