If you are going to make a wish, wish something sensible
Rising Action
It twitched!
On a dreary, cold night the White family sat around the fireplace as it boomed and crackled, spreading warmth. Mr. White and his son, Herbert, were playing chess, while Mrs. White knitted. Soon, Sergeant-Major Morris arrives, and begins telling the family different stories from his time as a soldier.
Climax
Mr.White comments on a story he remembered Morris telling him, about a monkeys paw the Sergeant got from India. The paw apparently had a spell placed on it by a fakir, which allowed it to grant three separate men three different wishes. Mr.White wishes to use the paw to make a wish, but Morris tells him its a really bad idea, and that he should at least wish something sensible.
Falling Action
Wish it.
After Morris leaves, the white family collectively agree to make a wish. Mr.White wishes for a sum of 2,000 pounds. A loud crashing noises is heard, before the paw twitches, causing Mr.White to scream in fear, and drop the paw, flinching away.
Resolution
That's our son! That's our son!
While sitting and working in the kitchen, a man in quite fine clothes arrives to tell Mr and Mrs.White that their son, Herbert, was caught in the machinery and died. The man tells the Whites that, as a sign of remorse, the company Herbert worked at sent them a sum of two-hundred pounds. This sends them into a state of shock, and they both cry and faint.
Your son...is dead.
The Whites days were cold and weary. In the middle of the night, some days after Herbert died, Mrs.White suddenly sits upright in bed, and tells her husband, Mr.White, to go and wish their son alive again. They head down the stairs and Mr.White enters the parlor, in fear at the sight greeting him. Everything is a grayish sort of tone, spooky and chilly.
A couple hours after Mr.White made his wish, the couple head back to bed, Mrs.White in intense emotional pain at the fact the wish didn't work, and Mr.White flooded with a sense of relief. Soon afterwards though, multiple knocks on the door reverberate through the house, sending Mrs.White downstairs desperately trying to unlock the front door, while Mr.White stressful searches for the monkeys's paw, to make his final wish. Right before a dis mangled version of Herbert could enter, Mr.White finds the paw and makes his final wish. The the knocking ceases and Mrs.White wails.
