  • A red blood cell is mostly made up of a protein called hemoglobin, which picks up oxygen at the lungs and delivers it to the rest of the body.
  • Red blood cells are important! They are all over your body and shaped like flattened basketballs.
  • Red blood cells also live for about 120 days in your body and are the most abundant cell in your blood!
  • Interesting! I know that some white blood cells alert the body it has been invaded, others produce chemicals to fight off invaders, and lastly some of them surround and kill organisms!
  • Did you know that white blood cells are just as important as red blood cells? Some people call white blood cells "disease fighters".
  • Cool!! I know that they are larger than red blood cells and that there aren't as many of them! They also have different "jobs" to do!
  • Plasma carries nutrients, hormones, which carry messages that tell the body what to do and when, and proteins throughout the body.
  • In your body, there is a yellowish liquid that is about 90% water. This is called plasma.
  • It also carries away cell waste.
