Storyboard Text

  • On April 09, after many days of battle, the last attempt by Confederates to advance was cut off by the Union. They were hopelessly outnumbered with no chance to win.
  • They were also ill equipped and losing battles. Confederate troops were surrounded. They were in a grave and losing situation.
  • Lee decides to meet with Grant after seeing his troops in such bad condition. He knows his men will not survive. He sends a telegram to meet with Grant.
  • Lee and Grant meet in the parlor of the Mclean home at 1 pm that afternoon. Lee surrenders to Grant and asks him to write up the terms of Surrender.
  • Grant allowed all Confederate soliders to be pardoned, sent home, and keep their horses for farming. They would be given union rations. This surrender meant the war was OVER.
  • THE CIVIL WAR ENDS.
