- A storm is a meteorological phenomenon associated with the vertical development of cloudiness accompanied by electrical discharges or lightning and, usually, precipitation and intense gusts of wind on the surface.

- The strongest storms are generated when humid air reach 100 miles per hour, at higher and cooler altitudes.
- Once sound and light move through the atmosphere at very different speeds, the distance of the storm can be estimated by the time difference between lightning (light) and thunder (sound).
- Increasing hot air is a mechanism that tries to restore stability, even when cold air tends to decrease and eventually disappear.
