  • Henry Clay
  • Jackson was a war hero from the war of 1812 and had popular recognition for that which led him to a win for president from 99 electoral votes until he realized he needed the majority of the electoral votes.
  • Outcome in Election of 1824
  • Clay was in last place , but he was the speaker for the house of representatives meaning he got to decide who gets to win. Clay was rooting for John Quincy Adams and secretly against Jackson. Adams ended up winning the election and becoming president, leaving Jackson as secretary of state.
  • Outcome in Election of 1824
  • Since Clay was the, "speaker of the house" he had the right to persuade a presidency which is what he did to make sure that Adams won and Jackson lost.
  • Outcome in Election of 1824
  • After Jackson lost due to the house of representatives he blamed them and accused them for corrupt bargain and favoritism. This then led him to a strong campaign in the next 1828 election.
