I was born in White Sulphur Springs, West Virginia, in 1918. As a child I was very brilliant. When I was 13 I was in high school.
I went to college when I was 18 I was good at math and the 1st African American to earn PhD in mathematics. Graduated 1937 n became a teacher.
I left my job, enrolled in a graduate math program. Left school to start a family with James Goble. 1952 moved to Newport News to work at NACA.
1957 launch of Soviet Satellite Sputnik changed my life. I provide math for the 1958 document. Then NACA became NASA
IN 1962 I was called up to do the work for the orbital mission of John Glenn.  I also gave calculations that helped synch project Apollo's Lunar Module.Also authored and co authored 26 research reports
I retired in 1986 after 33 years at Langley . And in 2015 Barack Obama awarded me the Presidential Medal of Freedom, America's highest civilian honor
