Metal
It is where a transfer of electrons occur, from a metal to a non-metal.
Non-Metal
It occurs by following the octet rule, which states that an atomdesires to have eight valence electronsin its valence shell.
For further explanation, let's have an example.
Na Cl
Metal
Both elements have opposite charges, so an attraction will happen. The Sodium's valence electron will transfer to Chlorine, out of respect for the octet rule. And now, a new compound will be made, which in this case, Sodium Chloride (NaCl).
Non-Metal
Oh, and take note. If you do not know the valence electrons of an element, always refer to the family they belong to. And also, a table of elements will always be helpful, since it has most of the things we have to use in bonding.
Goodbye! And always remember that bonding are like two lovers, they will always complete each other!
