  • How does ionic bonding happen?
  • Submitted by: Elisha Czarina K. BiguejaSubmitted to: Ma'am Mildred Aborable
  •
  • Metal
  • It is where a transfer of electrons occur, from a metal to a non-metal.
  • Non-Metal
  • It occurs by following the octet rule, which states that an atomdesires to have eight valence electronsin its valence shell.
  • For further explanation, let's have an example.
  • Na Cl
  •
  • Metal
  • Both elements have opposite charges, so an attraction will happen. The Sodium's valence electron will transfer to Chlorine, out of respect for the octet rule. And now, a new compound will be made, which in this case, Sodium Chloride (NaCl).

  • Oh, and take note. If you do not know the valence electrons of an element, always refer to the family they belong to. And also, a table of elements will always be helpful, since it has most of the things we have to use in bonding.
  • Goodbye! And always remember that bonding are like two lovers, they will always complete each other!
  • To be continued...
