Storyboard Text

  • Bruno
  • The thing about exploring is that you have to know whether the thing you've found is worth finding. Some things are just sitting there, minding their own business, waiting to be discovered. Like America. And other things are probably better off left alone. Like a dead mouse at the back of the cupboard.
  • Small for his aged and teased about it. He is healthy looking compared to Shmuel.
  • Very observant and notices details, also caring as he cares for Shmuel
  • Gretel
  • I'm thirteen years old, for heaven's sake! I can't afford to act like a child even if you can.
  • Not very mature for her age and demanding
  • Bigger than Bruno and childlike
  • Shmuel
  • Small and unhealthily skinny
  • Thoughtful and traumatized
  • Bruno: We're not supposed to be friends, you and me. We're meant to be enemies. Did you know that?
  • Bruno is a 9 year old German boy. He is from Berlin, but he had to move to Out-With because of his father's job and the protagonist of the story
  • Lieutenant Kotler
  • Wears a Nazi uniform and is German
  • Gretel is a 12 year old German girl and Bruno's sister. She likes to act mature although she isn't, she still even has dolls. She used to be best friends with Louise, Hilda, and Isobel.
  • Maria
  • She is submissive to the needs of Bruno's family and very thankful
  • She is German and wears maid, cleaning clothing
  • Shmuel is a Jewish Polish boy in Out-With. He is friends with Bruno. He is living under terrible conditions, he is small and under fed, and is terrified of Kotler. He lost his father.
  • Father
  • Wears a Nazi uniform and is German
  • Very proud of his job and doesn't like impoliteness
  • Lieutenant Kotler is a teenager. He isn't necessarily the antagonist of the book but he's Bruno's antagonist. He hates Jews and did something horrible to Pavel.
  • And afterwards, when you return to the kitchen, make sure you wash your hands before touching any of the food, you filthy—
  • Dislikes Jews, not kind to Bruno, and very loyal to the Nazis
  • Maria is young and one of the maids. She is very thankful to Bruno's dad for what he has done, which is giving her a job when she needed one, and she helped Bruno realize this.
  • Sitting around miserable all day won't make you any happier.
  • Bruno's father is a high ranking Nazi. He is important as he receives visits from the Fury, and he is why the family had to move to Out-With.
  • Those people...well, they're not people at all, Bruno
