The king and queen discuss with Rosencrantz and Guildenstern. The king ponders as to if it's Ophelia's love for Hamlet that is causing him to become mad. The king and queen hatch a plan for the queen to test Hamlet's madness.

Hamlet is acting strange
Ophelia reads a book, then tries to return the book to Hamlet, to try to get through to him. But Hamlet, being in pain, questioning if he should take his own life or not, questions her honesty. Hamlet tells Ophelia he loved her once, but no longer does anymore, and commands her to go to a nunnery.
