Storyboard Text

  • The stock market crash in 1929 resulted in many people losing all of their money. This caused people to buy less commodities, which made companies lose a lot of money. It was as if the money just vanished.
  • Throughout the 1920s, many farmers in Oklahoma used dryland farming. Farmers destroyed any plant that would compete with wheat for water. This ended up destroying the system that held the dirt down. Windstorms picked up the dirt and blew it throughout Oklahoma. This was called the Dust Bowl.
  • Designed by President Roosevelt, the New Deal was supposed to restore the soil in Oklahoma to its former glory and help people restore their farms.
