- Nov 1936: Hitler and Mussolini realized they had common interests. Then, Germany and Japan signed a pact that promised a common front against communism. Germany, Japan, and Italy came together to create the Axis Powers.
- Nazi-Soviet Nonaggression Pact signed
- Sign a deal with me, buddy, and I'll give you control of eastern Poland... and maybe more.
- Sep 1938: The Munich Conference was seen as the height of Western appeasement. Hitler made false promises to Britain's prime minister.
- Germany invades Poland
- Mar 1939: Hitler begins to make threats. He demanded the Polish part of Danzig, and Great Britain offered to protect Poland in event of a war. France and Britain turned to the Soviet Union for help, but their efforts failed.
- Great Britain & France declare war
- Aug 1939: In the pact, Germany and the Soviet Union promised not to attack each other. In order for Stalin to sign, Hitler offered him control of eastern Poland and the Baltic states.
- Sep 1, 1939: Hitler was now able to invade Poland because he didn't have to worry about the Soviet Union being a threat.
- Sep 3, 1939: In response to Hitler's invasion of Poland, Britain and France become allies and declare war on Germany.
