  • What was the compromise of 1877?
  • Samuel Tilden was originally from New Lebanon, New York, and stayed there. Tilden gained political fame from his reputation, as well as fighting for political corruption in New York City. Samuel Tilden's viewpoints were mixed, as he disapproved of the civil war and ending reconstruction in the southern states.
  • Rutherford Hayes won the presidential election of 1876. The issue with this was that there was a lot of controversy due the to the fact that Tilden was only one vote away from winning. With Florida, Louisiana, South Carolina, and Oregon's votes not counting, people argued that Tilden would have won.
