  • Miguel Hidalgo y Costilla made a speech (Grito de Dolores). When he was going to be arrested he gathered his followers and started el Grito de Dolores.
  • Mexican Independence 
  • The army of 90,000 was defeated by the Spanish troops. 
  • Hidalgo was taken captive by the Spanish and he was later executed. 
  • The creoles started to support the Mexican independence move. The creoles, rebel leaders and clergy came together and led the Spanish out of Mexico. They declared independence on September 27th, 1821.
