- The first step of digestion is to go into the mouth first. In the mouth, mechanical and chemical breakdown of food begins as the teeth rip and chew food and the saliva breaks it down the food. In I go!
- Restaurant
- After I'm all chewed up, I am ready to continue my journey of digestion. I am ready to go on a ride!
- Now I'm in the esophagus, which is a tube that connects the mouth with the stomach. Wee!
- The stomach is where most of the digestion occurs. Its where a mechanical and chemical breakdown of food continues in the stomach with gastric juices and movement.
- Now I am in the small intestine. Some digestion and most absorption of nutrients occurs in the small intestine.
- I then enter the large intestine from the small intestine. I reabsorb water that is used in digestion and eliminate undigested food and fibers. The waste then passes through the anus and gets eliminated out of the body. Out I go!
