Piggy
"I know there isn't no beast- not with claws and all that, I mean- but I know there isn't no fear, either...Unless we get frightened of people." Chapter 5, Page 84
Jack
"Kill the pig! Cut her throat! Spill her blood!"Chapter 4, Page 69
This quote show how Ralph starts losing his mind after accidentally committing a crime. It all clicks in his head how bad things are, and now he feels desperate for mercy. The author intended for Ralph to be a sign of leadership.I saw Ralph as intended, because he shows that leadership can have its ups and downs.
Sam and Eric
This quote shows how smart Piggy is, because he knows that people can go mentally ill if stranded for too long, unlike the others which are scared of a make-believe monster. The author wanted Piggy to represent brains, as in he thinks things through and things along that line.I saw piggy as intended, because he was very smart and orderly.
Simon
This quote was repeated multiple times, and it shows that Jack is slowly losing it. He uses it as a cheering chant, which to me is seen as wrong. Sometimes he even uses it to try and make him seem dominant. The author indentended Jack to represent savagery and dictatorship, because he becomes a savage, and tries to rule all of the other kids throughout the story.I see Jack as intended, but I did not see him as pure evil. I thought he was just losing it.
Roger
The twins do not often speak, but they spoke together, while in fear that their excuse wouldn't work and they would get hurt. It shows how they tried being as loyal as possible. The author wanted the boys to represent civilized people.I saw the boys as intended, but a bit more in depth. They are very well representative, because they're quiet but civilized defense is just some of today's people.
"Yes. We were very tired, so we left early. Was it a good dance?" Chapter 10, Page 158
This quote shows how smart Simon is, and he proves a valid and important point. Later on he is proven right, as most of them become savages. The author wanted Simon to represent a down to earth figure, someone who is grounded.I saw him as intended, but I also saw him as an ignored figure.
"Maybe there is a beast... Maybe it's only us." Chapter 5, Page 80
This quote shows how highly Roger thought of himself, and that was one of the things that made him as savage as he is. The author wanted Roger to represent Sadism, where something/someone finds pleasure in hurting others.I saw Roger like a sadist, but I also saw him as a bit egocentric.
"You couldn't stop me coming if I wanted." Chapter 10, Page 159
