  • In 1803, Thomas Jefferson bought the Louisiana Purchase from the French. It costed him 15 million, BUT the purchase doubled the size of the United States.
  • I will sell you 530,000,000 acres of land for 15 million.

  • Mexican citizens were unhappy because they were being heavily taxed and wealth and being born in Spain meant power. Everything was unfair for non-affluent people. This will make them soon fight for their independence.

  • Father Miguel Hidalgo
  • Father Miguel Hidalgo was a priest who thought that New Spain should treat all people equally. In the end, Hidalgo died and some of the followers made it to Texas and the United States.

  • Constitution of 1824
  • According to Spain, filibusters were "pirates who were trying to steal land." Philip Nolan was a filibuster. He came claiming to be trading for horses for the Spanish government. The Spanish claimed that Nolan was a spy and was mapping out their land for the US. Later, him and his men were attacked and Nolan died.
  • In February 1813, Spanish lost and retreated to San Antonio. Kemper's troops chased the Spanish and won in late March 1813. Then, in August 1813, they had another battle at the south of San Antonio. This time, the Spanish won. The Spanish then tracked down and killed colonists who had helped the Republican Army. This made them flee the towns of Goliad and Nacogdoches.
  • After Agustin lost his powers, the Mexicans wanted to remake the constitution because it seemed unfair like when they were under Spanish ruling. In October 1824, the new constitution was made. There were 4 main principles of the constitution. Republicanism, individual rights, seperation of powers, and federalism.
