- As Dimmesdale is taking a walk in the woods Hester calls out to him.
- Dimmesdale's Emotions
- "What else could I look for, being what I am, and leading such a life as mine?""Hester, I am most miserable"
- Dimmesdale is so surprised to see Hester here that he even questions if she is real.
- Hester's Realization
- "An enemy! And under mine own roof! What mean you?"
- Hester and Dimmesdale talk about how the past seven years have gone

- Dimmesdale talks about how he is miserable and how he feels speaking to his congregation knowing he has sinned. Hester attempts to comfort him.
