The Salem Witch Trials was a dark and brutal time. People started believing that there were witches living among them and that they would possess them so the only way to get rid of all the "witches" was to kill anyone who acted like a witch. Many innocent people died because of being deemed a witch and not being able to prove otherwise.
The hysteria started to spread like a wildfire starting out as a small rumor and blooming into total chaos. It became so bad that friends were accusing friends and family would accuse family of being witches. If you were accused of being a witch you would have to prove your innocence or you were sentenced to death.
Witch hunts occurred all over the country causing an uproar everywhere. Once a witch was found and tried they would be taken outside the courtroom or church to be stoned to death in front of the entire community who would be jeering and making fun of them.
A total of 19 women and 2 dogs were found guilty and executed for being a witch all over the country.
After a year of full-blown chaos the steam of the trials started to slow. It came to a complete stop back in Salem however when the governor's wife was accused of witchcraft and executed. I guess you could say what goes around comes around.
