  • My husband died helping to stop slavery!
  • I was once, a woman who helped free slaves using the underground railroad!

  • Langston Hughes was born on February 1, 1902 in Joplin Missouri. 
  • His Death and Legacy
  • I can't do it, my time as Langston Hughes is almost up, because of prostate cancer. 
  • His parents separated soon after Langston was born. 
  • Good Years
  • Wow, the poetry of Carl Sandburg and Walt Whitman is a truly phenomenal sight. 
  • During his young years, Langston Hughes lived mostly with his maternal grandmother.  She told him her stories about his family and why slavery was so devastating to black people.

  • Langston Hughes died on May 22, 1967 from prostate cancer, but received statues in New York, the place were he waas born. 
  • Langston Hughes spent his last days traveling and making poems for several American Newspapers such as the Harlem Reminiscence. 
  • Langston Hughes was introduced to poetry in school and loved the poems that Carl Sandburg and Walt Whitman wrote, his first poem was the Negro Speaks of Rivers,
