- Dally takes Ponyboy and Johnny to a dairy queen. They talk about how Cherry was a spy and Ponyboy says that he should have picked up his own kind
- They all drive back to the church to collect their things. Dally talks about how Jonny's parents do no miss him and that he does not want him to get hardened in jail.
- Ponyboy and Johhny see that their church is on flames. They hear there are kids inside. They bolt into the church through a window even though Dally said to com back.
- Ponyboy and Johnny ran into the church on fire They heard the kids and went that way
- They found the kids and put them through a broken window and Ponyboy got out. However, a piece of wood smacked johhny down. Dallas went in and saved tem
- Johnny was in critical condition and if e lived he would be crippled for the rest of his life.
