Storyboard Text

  • Odysseus and his crew sail forward, heading through into the den of Scylla.
  • Odysseus and his men face the horrendous Scylla.
  • Scylla attacked and ate 6 of Odysseus's best men from the ship.
  • " 'Skirting this in the lugger, great Odysseus, your master bowman, shooting from the deck, would come short of the cavemouth with his shaft; but that is the den of Scylla...' " (12. 39-43).
  • Odysseus and the rest of his men escaped out of Scylla's den and then meeting Charybdis.
  • " 'My men all blanched against the gloom , our eyes were fixed upon that yawning mouth in fear of being devoured' " (12. 185-187).
  • The only men Odysseus had left fell into the Charybdis's mouth, leaving Odysseus the only man left.
  • " 'Then Scylla made her strike, whisking six of my best men from the ship and oarsmen and caught sight of their arms and legs, dangling high overhead. Voices came down to me in anguish, calling my name for the last time' " (12. 186-193).
  • Odysseus, being the only man left alive, floated on the sea on a singular piece of wood from the broken ship.
  • " 'But when she swallowed the sea water down we saw the funnel of the maelstrom, heard the rock bellowing all around, and dark sand raged on the bottom far below' " (12. 181-184).
  • " 'She ate them as they shrieked there...reaching still for me -- and deathly pity ran through at that sight -- far the worst I ever suffered, questing the passes of the strange sea' " (12. 199-203).
