- March 1936: Germany occupies Rhineland

- November 1936: Axis powers formed

- Hitler violated the Treaty of Versailles by increasing the German military.
- September 1938: Munich Conference
- Hitler again violated the treaty by marching into Rhineland, a demilitarized zone.
- August 1939: Nazi-Soviet Nonaggression Pact signed
- We will not attack you
- And we will not attack you.
- Germany, Italy, and Japan created an alliance known as the Axis Powers.
- September 3, 1939: Great Britain and France declare war
- France will never win!!
- No Great Britain will never win!!
- Munich Conference seen as height of Western appeasement. Conference arranged between German's, British, French, and Italians.
- Both countries promised not to attack each other.
- This is the official start of WWII.
