- This is Mary. She is blind. She wishes that she could play soccer with her friends.
- Soccer is so fun!
- I love supporting my friends, but I really wish I could play with them!
- We should try to find a way to help her... Maybe Mrs. Jones can help us brainstorm ideas!
- Did you see Mary at the game? She looked so sad!
- I wish Mary could play with us.
- Mary's friends are sad that Mary cannot play soccer with them. They make a plan to ask their teacher at school tomorrow about ways to include Mary.
- Mrs. Jones, we want to include Mary in our soccer games.
- Do you have any ideas that could help us?
- That's a great idea! We learned in science class this week about engineering and experimenting... Maybe we can research ideas online!
- The teacher reminded them to apply what they learned in science about engineering, and how it takes experimenting until you find a solution that works.
- The students learned that adding sound to soccer balls allows people with visual impairments to locate the ball.
- That's it! We can try to add a sound to the soccer ball so that Mary can find it and play with us!

- The students tried many ways to make a soccer ball make noise... First they tried to place the bell on top. Then they tried to hang the bell from the bottom like a wind chime. When those did not work, they tried putting the bell inside the soccer ball. It worked! The ball could make noise and still roll!

- I am so glad Mrs. Jones taught us to experiment and research ideas!
- Mary we are so happy you can play soccer with us!
- The students worked together as a team to hypothesis an idea and experiment designs until they found one that would work perfectly for Mary. Mary is so happy to be able to play soccer with her friends!
