  • THE QUEST FOR MEDUSA
  • THE QUEST FOR MEDUSA
  • Perseus said he will give the head of Medusa as a gift to King Polydectes. Perseus set out to get Medusa’s head, determined to keep up his end of the bargain and to keep his mother safe. Since he was the son of Zeus, though, he wouldn’t be alone.
  • While Zeus had no particular involvement inPerseus’ life, it didn’t mean that the gods weren’t aware of the young man. The Greek gods loved to get involved with quests, and thus they’d give Perseus a few tools that would help him to complete his task.
  • THE QUEST FOR MEDUSA
  • he stepped around Medusa’ssisters, his own excited breathing and pounding heartbeat seemed louder than the pipes and drums of war, his clumsy backward footsteps more deafening than those of any army on the march.
  • THE QUEST FOR MEDUSA
  • Perseus walked backward into the camp of the Gorgons as silently as hecould, holding the shield of Athena before him reversed, looking only at the reflection of what lay behind him. He caught glimpses of the monsters in the shield, snoring contently, confident in their invincibility. The only sound to be heard above those he made himself was the placid hissing of the snakes that formed the Gorgons’ hair.
  • He dropped the sword and threw himself ontop of the thrashing creature, scrabbling for her head. When he found it, he gripped the snakes with one hand, heedless of the bites they delivered.
  • Then he took up his sword again with the other hand and slasheddownward where he judged the neck ought to be. He felt the head comeaway even as a spray of hot blood struck him full in the face.
