  • Five men were arrested while trying to bug the DNC national headquarters, which was taking place at the Watergate Hotel, located in Washington D.C. 
  • Re-election & The Truth Comes Out
  • Bob Woodward, a reporter for The Washington Post sits in on the arraignment. This is when he hears that one of the burglars was a former CIA employee. This gets him curious, and for the next two years he and a and a partner work to uncover what actually happened. During this time the Nixon administration works to cover up it's involvement because Nixon is up for re-election, and they would do anything to help him win.

  • Bob Woodward's instincts were correct the former CIA employee was also on President Nixon's re-election team. Although, Nixon didn't order the burglary he did order it to be covered up. All documents were destroyed, the CIA ordered the FBI to not meddle and Nixon even tried to persuade the American citizens that he had no involvement in all this. His strategy worked for the time-being.

  • Nixon's re-election plan worked, he was reelected to another term in one of the largest margins in history. Shortly after, the Watergate burglars went on trial. During this trial the truth finally came out when McCord testified and exposed many people 
  • In admits of the scandal, Nixon was trapped. Everyone knew about the scandal and the coverup, he was up about to get impeached. In one final attempt to save face, he resigned before the House of Representatives held their vote on his impeachment.
  • First off, President Ford took office and assured citizens that the "national nightmare is over", but after Watergate American citizens lost faith and didn't trust the government at all. During this time, Congress also implemented a set of laws to limit the power of the executive branch. The Watergate Scandal former changed America.
