  • Peasants and nobles were required to pay one-tenth of their income to produce to the church. In the decades leading into the French Revolution peasants paid land tax to the state and a 5% property tax.

  • The government raised prices for food, peasants could barely afford any food at this time. There were many bread riots.

  • The storming of Bastille occurred on the afternoon of July 14, 1789. A mob from Paris were in search of large quantities of arms and ammunition that they believed was stored at the fortress.
