  • LESSON DESIGN GRADE: FOUR (4)TOPIC: NUMBER PATTERNS
  • Today we are going talk about patterns. I have drawn 3 set of patterns on the board, they are shaped like tiles/triangles.
  • PRINCIPLES 1.ELICITING PRIOR KNOWLEDGE (Through the use of drawing tiles)2.PRINCIPLE OF TRANSFER(learners already know and have tiles in their homes so the lesson will be easier for them to transfer what they have seen to the lesson)

  • Mam, I see tiles/triangles on the board, they are shapes.

  • PATTERNS FACTS ABOUT PATTERNS1.There are different types of patterns.2.In order to recognize a pattern, there has to be a rule followed.3.Basically a pattern is a sequence of numbers which follows one rule.
  • PRINCIPLES AND COMPETENCIES CommunicationAs the teacher teaches, she will ask learners of their different opinions and answers to questions asked.
  • Learner 1-Okay guys let us brainstorm.Learner 2-Lets use shapes to show our patterns.Learner 3-Okay that is good, I use we should use squares for our pattern and it will be a pattern whereby you add 2 to any odd number
  • GROUP ACTIVITY GROUP WORK
  • COMPETENCIES COMMUNICATION-The group activity will encourage learners to come up with different ideas and make them one in order to complete the activity.COLLABORATION-The group activity will urge learners to work together.
  • In a group of two(pair), come up with your own patterns and represent them by use of shapes and drawings
  • PRINCIPLES CREATIVITY-The group activity will require learners to be creative as they will SHOW different patterns using drawings and shapes for it to be more visual.
  • Working together to complete work in class helps us to learn from each other.
