Adult begins to attack the doll and behaves aggressively
Adults hit the doll vigorously or behave nicely while a group of 36 girls and 36 boys watch attentively.
The kids imitate their actions and either strike the bobo doll aggressively or, if they belong to the non-aggressive group, do so with almost no aggressiveness. If the behaviour model shared their gender, they were more inclined to emulate it.
Bandura's Bobo doll research 1963
He carried out research with three conditions, one was where the role model would be rewarded for acting aggressive towards the doll.
The next being the role model was punished for aggressive behaviour then the third suffered from no consequences
strengths: reliable, good control of IV's, establishes cause and effect
The behaviour is generally imprinted on the kids by the same gender. Children in the model-rewarded condition were more likely than those in the model-punished condition to mimic aggressive behaviour. The results point to vicarious reinforcement.
