  • Mellissa is the average 16-year-old girl who loves to take selfies and pictures of her life to post on her social media's. On this day, Mellissa felt very confident and decided to share her look on Instagram with her friends. Her account is currently on public, which means that anyone with an Instagram account can like, comment, and share her post.
  • Mellissa, I brought you here to talk about your many absences and poor performance in school...is something going on that we should be aware of?
  • Initially, the response to Mellissa's picture was positive and kind. She felt even more confident after hearing everyone's kind words.
  • Well, I've been getting these hurtful messages non-stop. Everyday an anonymous account messages me saying mean things! I don't know what to do but it's all I can think about. 
  • Mellissa received a hateful comment from an anonymous account. She began to second guess ever posting her selfie, She instantly began to develop a lower self-confidence and started to have insecurities. The anonymous account continued to say hurtful things to her through her private messages.

  • Mellissa tried to ignore the abuse until it started affecting her performance in class and her mental health. She had never dealt with something like this before.
  • She told no one about the bully because she was too scared and embarrassed. However, she had enough of this unwanted treatment. She wanted the harassment to end! She informed her principal to help her deal with the incident.
  • After informing the principal of the bullying, Mellissa felt instantly better. She found people to help her through this rough time. She called the cyberbullying help phone for more guidance and support in this matter.
