Storyboard Text

  • I'm going to talk about the different types of houses and people from the 1500s
  • The people who lived in these houses were yeoman. Some owned their land and others rented it to a gentleman. Some lived in medium-sized country houses and made a living by farming or from cattle, pigs, or sheep. Some peasants worked on their farms and some had servants. Yeomen and their families made up about 30 percent of the population.
  • The citizens lived in villages and were still rich. Some made money buying and selling products such as jewelry, wool, food, wine or cloth. These mans were called merchant. They lived in fine town houses. They made up about 5 percent of the population
  • The gentleman were very rich. They lived in huge country houses with lots of rooms in which to hold dinner parties, dances and music concerts. They have a lot of lands. Some of these men helped the king or queen to run the country. Other gentleman were not quite so rich but still lived in large houses with plenty of land. The gentleman made up about 5 percent of the population
  • The labourers lived in a country. They would work on a farm. Some had their own small piece of land to grow their own vegetables and keep a few chiens. Some labourers lived in towns and might have wored as carpenters. Labourers made up about 60 percent of the population.
