  • "Oh Vitus! I've heard of your great works around the city. What is your secret?
  • "Why do the Patricians get to be treated better than us? We do all the work!"
  • Magnus
  •
  • Welcome the consuls of the of the Executive and the leaders of the Senate, Magnus and Maximus! They will be the commanders in chief for the army! One that stays home and protects the city, and one that goes to war.
  • Maximus
  • "You Plebeians have no right to speak of what or what not you desire!
  • "How will you people pay for the expenses of the city with little money? We are the reason why the kingdom is still running!
  • "Would you like to be treated like pigs in your own home?!
  • "We demand you give the civilians more rights than they barely have! I mean please, are we your slaves?
  • "I'm not sure if this will necessarily work..they could just imprison us and force us to continue working.
  • Patricians and Plebeians had very different lives. They were decided to be Plebeian or Patrician at birth. Patricians at this time had the upper hand in Rome, and Plebeians were treated poorly.
  • "This will be a great new start for us Valentina, we may be able to finally start a family and not worry about expenses."
  • "I've never left my city before..what are the dangers of the outside world that we possibly do not know of?
  • "Maybe they'll see that we are the root of the city now!"
  • Patricians established a government after overthrowing the last Etruscan king. They made a government called a republic. A republic is made up of representatives that are chosen by the citizens. There were three bodies, like the Senate. The Senate was made up of 300 men. They ran the country. Senators served life terms. They crated laws, chose officials and served as judges. They also chose two leaders of the Senate called Consuls.
  • Dominic
  • "For the first time in Roman History, from the start of the Republic 'till now, we shall welcome our new consuls of the state! Florentinus; Tribune of the Plebs, and Dominic of the Patricians. The Plebeians will now be involved directly with the governemnt.
  • Florentinus
  • After some time, Plebeians became tired of how they were treated in the country and decided to argue and fight back against the Patricians. hey had no rights in the new form of government. Laws were not written down, so it was easy for Patricians to to exploit these laws.
  • "The Twelve Tables"
  • Absolutely ridiculous! The Plebeians should have never been apart of the direct Republic.
  • Plebeians still were treated poorly after fighting back so they decided to try a different approach. They recognized that hat they made up the majority of Rome's military. In 494 BC, they protested by leaving Rome. Not long after, Patricians realized that the country would go into chaos without the Plebians.
  • After the Patricians realized what would happen if they did not grant the Plebeians with the rights they deserved, they welcomed them back into the city. They agreed the plebeians to choose 10 officials, named the Tribune of the Plebs. They represented the Plebeian interests in the Senate. They were also given the power to veto. Any rule or law decided that Plebeians thought was unfair or unjust, they could veto against. Also, Plebeians wanted 1 of the 2 consuls to be Plebeian. They finally were apart of the government.
  • Plebeians became irritated with the fact that laws weren't written down and that Patricians could exploit and change these laws anytime. They demanded that laws should be recorded down. This led to the created of The Twelve Tables. The Twelve Tables were tablets with laws written down onto them and shown to the public.
