Storyboard Text

  • Hello! What is you name?
  • My name is Boulder and I will be your tutor for the day!
  • What do you need help with?
  • Well I have a chemistry assignment and it is due tomorrow.
  • What are some of the characteristics of a covalent bond?
  • Well, a covalent bond is a bond between two nonmetals, involves sharing of valence electrons and there are three types of covalent bond. Which are single, double and triple pairs.
  • This is when Graham and his tutor meet to go over chemistry.
  • What are some of the properties of covalent bonds?
  • Well some of the properties are that they have low melting points, do not conduct electricity because they are not metals, and if they are polar covalent they are soluble in water
  • Graham has a chemistry assignment due tomorrow about covalent and Ionic characteristics and the bonds properties.
  • Next, I need to know some Ionic bond characteristics.
  • Well, some characteristics of Ionic bonds are a combination of a metal and a non-metal, the elements transfer valence electrons and involve a bonding of cations and anions.
  • Graham learns about three characteristics of covalent bonds which he needs to know for his assignment.
  • Lastly, I need to know some properties of Ionic bonds
  • Thanks for helping me understand Ionic and Covalent bonds better!
  • Some properties of Ionic bonds are that they have high melting and boiling points, they are soluble in water and they are conductive. Did you know that when they are in solid form they can be used as insulators!
  • You're welcome let me know when you need help again.
  • Graham has just learned some properties of covalent bonds. A polar covalent bond is when electrons are shared unequally and a nonpolar covalent bond is when atoms are shared equally.
  • Graham has learned about some Ionic bond characteristics. For a cation, the valence electron loses electrons and has a positive charge and with an anion, it gains electrons and has a negative charge.
  • Graham learned about Ionic bond properties. That because it is a bond between a metal and a metal they are conductive. When the bond is in solid form they can be used as insulators and when they are in liquid form they are conductors of electricity.
