Oedipus' parents hear a prophecy of their son killing his father and marrying his mother. Oedipus is abandoned to die. However the soldier ordered to leave him can't bring himself to do it and hands him over to a shepherd who gives him to the King Polybus and Queen Merope of Corinth.
When Oedipus grows up he consults an oracle who tells him he will kill his father and marry his mother. He leaves Corinth and travels to Thebes to prevent the prophecy from coming true.
Oedipus is pushed off the road by a servant to the King of Thebes. This leads him to hit the person who pushed him with a cane, which results is a street fight where Oedipus is the last one standing by killing everyone else.
The Queen of Thebes' brother offered the crown and his sister's hand in marriage for whoever could defeat the sphinx and save Thebes. Oedipus answers the sphinx's riddle correctly and defeats it becomes king.
Oedipus an Queen Jocasta marry and have 4 children, 2 sons and 2 daughters.
After unfortunately finding out the prophecy came true Queen Jocasta hangs herself and Oedipus gouges out his eyes. After, he is exiled and wanders the desert with his daughters guiding him till he dies.
