  • "There came to my ears a low dull quick sound such as a watch makes when enveloped in cotton i knew that sound well too it was the beating of the old mans heart".

  • This quote proves that the narrator is unreliable because he has never been to neither heaven or h3ll.

  • The quote is an example of a simile because  it uses the words "a watch makes when enveloped in cotton" and compares it to the old man's heart.

  • The evil eye symbolizes hatred against something or someone. 
  • this example of imagery contributes to the tone of suspense because it describes how still he was in a very detailed way.
