Storyboard Description

An example of natural selection and how it influences evolution.

Storyboard Text

  • The gazelles overproduce
  • There is variation
  • There is a predator
  • The gazelle species produce more offspring than will survive.
  • Natural Selection
  • There is variation in the speed trait so some gazelles are faster than others. This is due to mutation in the genes.
  • Adaptation
  • As it gets late, the cheetah nearby gets hungry. The gazelles are going to have to compete to survive.
  • Evolution
  • The cheetah attacks and only the fastest gazelles survive.
  • Only the faster gazelles live to reproduce, so they will pass their faster trait onto their children.
  • Over time, the population will increase in overall speed because only the fastest gazelles can reproduce.
