- Charlie is a 37 year old, he can't read or write well, and he wants to become smart. His teacher Ms.Kinnian is recommending him for an experiment that will artificially give him intelligence.
- Climax
- Charlie gets accepted for the experiment and undergoes a operation that gives him artificial intelligence.
- Falling action
- Charlie begins to get smarter which causes a lot of negative impacts on his life, including losing his jobs and his friends. He also realises he is in love with ms.kinnian.
- Resolution
- Charlie realises that Algeron is acting strange and refusing to eat the doctors think that Algernon is trying to die. Charlie conducts research about him and Algernon. His finds reveal that Algernon is slowly declining and losing memories. He realizes that it won't be long before the same thing happens to him.
- Algernon dies, and Charlie begins to lose his memory and intelligence. He starts to isolate himself from the lab and ms.kinnan.
- Charlie goes back to being his old self. Everyone around him treats him differently and he doesn't remember why. He decides to check himself into a facility that will take care of him. As a final request he asks ms.kinnian to put flowers on Algernon's grave for him.
