  • Gallery walks.
  • Morning grade 3. Make 4 groups. Each group will get a minute to observe the pictures in each of the four stations.
  • Findings.
  • Our group has learnt that volcano has..............
  • New content.
  • Uncontrolled fire can be dangerous. It can do the following:➢ Fire can burn and damage vegetation,➢ It can also harm and burn people and animals➢ It can increase air pollution ➢ Smoke can damage our eyes and lungs.
  • The properties of fire are the following: • Fire is hot. • It has smoke.• It is fast.
  • If you catch fire do the following:• Immediately stop what you’re doing. • Drop to the ground.•Roll around on the ground until the fire goes out.
  • The teacher will have 4 gallery stations. Each station will consist of picture of a type of natural disaster (Floods, fires, volcanos, and earthquakes). The groups will walk and observe the pictures in each station.
  • Hands-on activity
  • On your white boards please draw 4 things that can be damaged by fire.
  • Eyes
  • The learners will turn to their peer and discuss the features of the natural disasters that they have learned before. After a minute they will join will another pair they share their ideas until the whole row has paired. The groups will choose one learner who will represent their groups and explain to the teacher and classroom the features/characteristics of all they four natural disasters.
  • Practice Stop, Drop and Roll

  • The teacher will present the learners with new content.
  • Exiting questions and exit slip
  • • Name the natural disasters that we have talked about?• What do we use fire for?• What item can be damaged by fire?
  • Learners will draw and name 4 things that can be damaged by fire on their white boards.
  • The teacher will take some pretend flames and tape one learners then the learner will have to stop, drop, and roll on the ground until all the flames fall off of their clothes. Two learners will go at a time. Everyone will get a chance to practice. While each learner is stopping, dropping, androlling, the rest of us will sing the stop, drop, and roll song.
  • The teacher will ask learners exiting questions based on the content on fire covered. Then provide them with coloured exit slips to answer the key question (What can one do, when they catch fire?)
