- When sergeant major Morris comes in and tells them about the monkeys paw. Mr. White asks to take it from him even though the sergeant tells him not too. The family then wishes for 200 pounds to help pay the house off

- Mr and Mrs White are told that there son has died in a work accident but for compensation they will receive 200 pounds.

- Mrs.White, after mourning for a while, remembers that they have two wishes left and could wish for there son back. Mr.White doesn't want to thinking that it is immoral. Despite that Mrs.White ends up begging him enough for them to do it and they use the second wish.
