- Islands like these start from a volcanic eruption.
- Yes! I have have always had that question.
- Cool!
- Primary Succession can take up to 1000 years to reach climax community. The first organisms to come here were pioneer species.
- The first stage is called primary succession It is after the volcanic eruption. Primary succession takes place when there is only bare rock.
- We have now reached the second stage called secondary succession.
- Yes! It will take up to 100 years to reach climax community. Pioneer species include lichens that break down the rock into soil.
- Now the bare rock is soil, right?
- Wow!
- A few more trees have started growing and small animals have started coming.
- We are almost at the climax community.
- Finally, we have reached the climax community
- You're welcome. The climax community is when the community has reached a stable stage(equilibrium).

- Oh no! Another volcano erupted!
- Don't worry. This is nature. This same cycle will repeat over and over!
