- It’s near Christmas time and Della wants to get Jim a gift. Della’s most Prized possession is her hair, and Jim’s most Prized Possession is his watch.
- Climax

- Della then realizes that she has very little money to buy things for Jim, this makes Della very Sad.
- Falling Action
- Della Then decides to cut her hair to be able to pay for the gift, so she goes to someone she can sell her hair to pay for her gift, and she gets 20 dollars for her hair. This is enough to pay for a watch chain for her husband.
- Resolution
- Well thank you for getting me the gift!
- Thank you as well!
- Della gets home and gives the watch chain to Jim, and Jim gives her beautiful comb.
- Woa-
- They both tell each other that they sold their most prized possession to give the other a gift for their most prized possession.
- I sold my hair to get you the chain
- I sold my watch to get you the comb
- Although they can’t use their gifts, they are both happy by the fact that they will give up the most prized possession for their loved one, because caring for others is the true gift.
