- Oh death, spare me the misery.
- How DARE you talk back to ME!
- YOU WILL NOT WHIP ME!!
- SMACK!
- I will never think or act like a slave again.
- When I returned Covey was nice to me, I didn't get the beatings that I had expected. "Maybe the magic root was working", I thought. But then Covey called me for a beating. I knew i had to do something, I wouldn't be beaten again.
- I fought, I had nothing to lose. I didn't know what would happen, but after the fight I was never beaten again. After I fought with Covey, I had won. I had not only won the fight, but also his respect.
- From that day on, under the moon's encouraging smile, I vowed to never think or act like a slave again. Even though i was born a slave, I would never give in to such a fate.
