  • Rainsford is on his way to Rio and the quote, "...as it pressed its thick warm blackness in upon the yacht." (60), describes the weather of his journey.
  • *rustle*
  • *rustle*
  • *rustle*
  • When Rainsford lands on the place where he heard the gun shots he describes seeing, "...the jungle weeds were crushed down, and the moss was lacerated; one patch of weeds was stained crimson." (64).
  • " 'Hunting? Good God, General Zaroff, what you speak of is murder.' The general laughed with entire good nature. He regarded Rainsford quizzically." (70), shows that the General is calm and collected as he talks about murder while Rainsford loses his mind.
  • As Rainsford try's to evade the general it proves to be harder then he anticipated. "Something was coming through the bush, coming slowly, carefully, coming by the same winding way Rainsford had come." (76)
  • As Rainsford hides his emotions run high "...sound that made him know that he had new things to learn about fear.....the baying of a pack of hounds." (78)
  • "He had never slept in a better bed, Rainsford decided." (80), with Rainsford's victory over General Zaroff he is finally at peace.
