On October 29, 1929 the Stocking markets suddenly crashed. That was when the Great Depression began. And people were shocked.
All of the people who were working in jobs at the time lost their jobs. Everyone were sad and shocked. The main reason to why this happen because the banks couldn't provide enough money for each customers so the only way was to close it down.
At this time, the Great migration was happening when African Americans moved to the cities to get a better life. But since the stock markets was in process, it was hard for them to find a job. Especially for African American women migrants.
It was also hard for them to find a place to the city because of the whites did not really accept them. So they figured that they would make their own community space for African Americans. But still they were still sad and lost that they didn't have a place to stay in the city because of their color.
As a matter of fact, there were other people involved who were struggling to find shelter. Main reason was because the banks couldn't lend money for the workers so they had to shut the stores down. Everyone was depressed and miserable.
Everyone was so mad that the stock markets crash that they blamed the government. This was because they didn't want to live the life where they struggled for food and shelter. But still the government didn't know how to deal with this. Since everyone was homeless at that time, they decided to call the village Hooverville after the president, Mr. Hoover because they assumed that he caused this.
