- The Korean war was the first war where direct violence was used. The USSR supported North Korea, while the USA supported South Korea. There were millions of casualties.
- The Bay of Pigs Invasion- April 17, 1961
- The vietnam war was part of the overall Cold War confrontation. The USA was trying to prevent Vietnam from joining the communists. Losing Vietnam was seen as a huge defeat.
- Cuban Missile Crisis- October 16, 1962
- The space race was also an important event in the Cold War. The USSR was the first to send people out into space, while the USA was the first to reach the moon, ultimately leading to USA claiming victory. This strengthened both powers overall.
- Fall of the Berlin Wall
- The bay of Pigs invasion also played an important role in the Cold War. The USA failed to land in Cuba, which was seen as a huge embarrassment.
- The USSR secretly planted nukes in Cuba to attack the USA in 1962. This was a big moment in history as the two powers became the closest to nuclear conflict than ever before.
- The Berlin Wall fell down 5 days after half a million Germans came to protest. It broke the separation between East Germany and west Germany. These events ultimately weakened the Soviet Union and led to its collapse.
