  • The story starts off with a village and a small little family of three live within it; Kino, Juana, and their baby Coyotito. Even through they're poor they're still a content family.

  • One day baby Coyotito got bit by a scorpion and Kino and Juana didn't have enough money for treatment so Kino decided to go peal diving and caught the "pearl of the world". His attitude changes and he starts becoming selfish talking about all the things he can get with his new treasure.
  • Resolution
  • Kino is forced to fight off all the people that try to attack him and steal the pearl. One night after fighting with Juana he ended up killing a man in self defense. It was then they knew the had to flee town the next day to sell the pearl at the capital.
  • On their way to the capital they got followed by trackers and they decided to go undercover and attack. Right before he attacks Coyotito lets off a cry that alarms the trackers and makes one shoot their rifle. Little does Kino realize".. the sound-the keening, moaning, rising historical cry from the little cave in the side of the stone mountain, the cry of death"(Stienbeck 87).
  • "And Kino drew back his arm and flung the pearl with all his might. Kino and Juana watched it go , winking and glimmering under the setting sun. They saw the little splash in the distance, and they stood side by side watching the place for a long time"(Stienbeck 90).
