  • The Estate General took place. People of the third estate summoned King Louis to a meeting hall. They protested against the large taxes that were placed upon them. King Louis was not keen on making change. This was the beginning of the French Revolution. 
  • The Declaration of the Rights of Man and of the Citizen - August 26, 1789
  • Every person needs equal rights
  • The Tennis Court Oath took place. It occured after the Estate General took place. People of the third estate government gathered there. They discussed and agreed that the King needed to change. They all took an oath vowing they would not stop until they had a new constitution. 
  • Womens March on Versailles - October 5, 1789
  • Bread is too expensive!
  • The Storming of the Bastille happened on July 14, 1789.  The State prison on the east side was known as the Bastille. It was attacked by an angry mob of the commoners. This was in protest of the recent events of the King. Prisoners were also released from the prison.
  • The Flight to Varennes - June 20, 1791
  • On August 26, 1789, the Declaration of the Rights of Man and of the Citizen was written. It included many of the rights that they fought for in the French Revolution. The basic priniciple is that "all men are born and remain free and equal in rights." The sources of the ideas in the Declaration included the major thinkers in the French Enlightenment. These people included Montesquieu, and Rousseau. 
  • On October 5, 1778, the Womens March on Versailles occured. In the morning, a large group of women went to the market place to protest. The governement made the price of food go up extremely high. People were not able to afford bread and other food. They marched in protest to lower the price of food so they could afford to feed their families.
  • On June 20, 1791, the Flight to Varennes happened. It describes the royal family's failed attempt to escape house arrest. They had configured a lengthy plan to escape, but while undergoing the plan, multiple thinsg went wrong. They got put 90 minutes behind their orginal schedule. When caught, the people were astonished of the King's actions. This later led to the deaths of the king and the queen.
