- Why are these so expensive
- Rampant speculation led to falsely high stock prices, and when the stock market began to tumble in the months leading up to the October 1929 crash, speculative investors couldn't make their margin calls, and a massive sell-off began.
- Shaky banking
- when an investor buys an asset by borrowing the balance from a bank or broker. Buying on margin refers to the initial payment made to the broker for the asset
- The U.S. put higher tariffs on international goods. This made people stop buying them and buying in the U.S.
- Banks work by using money from depositors that they then loan to businesses, the money they earn they use to pay interest to these depositors.
